Ulstein Verft facilitates testing of new marine charging system - EZconnect™
Norwegian Ocean Space Technology (NOSTEC) is thrilled to announce the completion and analysis of the initial testing of its innovative EZconnect™ electric charging system for maritime vessels, facilitated by industry leader Ulstein Verft.
A new era in maritime electrification
This milestone signifies a leap forward in efficient, low-maintenance, and highly durable charging solutions, key to advancing a sustainable future for maritime electrification.
The EZconnect™ system is purpose-built to meet the demands for a compact, intelligent, and rugged electric charging system. With support from Innovation Norway, this ongoing project underscores NOSTEC's commitment to sustainable innovation. Ulstein Verft’s facilitating role in these early tests highlights its position as a pioneering leader in next-generation maritime technology.
Rigorous testing
NOSTEC with partners has conducted an intensive week of principle and capacity trials at the yard. The tests focused on the projects feasibility, the systems transfer capability, and ability to adapt to real-time power requirements over time, paving the way for a seamless transition to green energy in maritime applications. Future testing phases are also being planned at Ulstein Verft, where the system’s final adjustments and validations will be completed prior to onboard testing.
Tailored for a greener fleet
The EZconnect™ charging solution is tailored to the specific operational needs of fully electric and hybrid vessels. Designed to operate automatically or if required autonomous without human intervention, it is being built to withstand heavy use over time with low maintenance demands. By enabling real-time diagnostics and predictive maintenance, it allows for continuous monitoring and adjustment to optimize operational cost and uptime. The EZconnect™ system is designed to reduce downtime and ensure vessels are always ready for their next journey.
Supporting a carbon-neutral vision
NOSTEC is grateful to Ulstein Verfts’s support for this initiative as it aligns with their longstanding commitment to stimulate and drive sustainable maritime solutions, complementing its work on hybrid and fully electric vessels. NOSTEC’s charging system will be a crucial asset to Norway’s vision of an emission-free maritime industry, providing a vital link in the infrastructure needed to support green fleets.
Looking Forward
Ulstein Verft’s willingness to facilitate future testing is an example of the crucial collaboration needed between industry leaders and new technology companies in advancing and enabling clean maritime technology. The EZconnect™ project not only enables the potential of sustainable marine infrastructure but also reflects a shared vision for a cleaner, greener future at sea.
